Science Fair Report Format


Title Page - not numbered. Title is centered in the middle of the page in bold-faced or colored print. Place name, school, grade, teacher, and date in the lower corner.

Table of Contents - includes page numbers of sections. There is no page number for this page.

Statement of Purpose - What were you testing? State in the form of a question.

Background information / Research - includes the information you researched on your project. Use your own words!

Hypothesis - Based on your research, what did you think was going to happen?

Material List - What did you use? Place this in a list format.

Procedures - How did you conduct the experiment? What did you do? Number the steps you used in your project or include your notes.

Variables and controls - What stayed the same during your experiment and which elemenents changed?

Results - What happened in your experiment? Give data from log book. You may use pictures, data, or graphs.

Conclusion - With information from background research and results, tell why you think your experiment turned out the way it did. Did you prove or disprove your hypothesis?

Discussion - Talk about future considerations for your experiment. Will it be helpful to science? Should further experiments be tried? Did you find anything new?

Credits - If someone helped you with your project, give them credit.

Bibliography - List all resources used.
