Accelerated Reader

"No activity does more than reading aloud to prepare children for success in school." (Bernice Cullinan: Read to Me: Raising Kids Who Love to Read)

Accelerated Reader  is in full swing!  In this program, students will check out specific Accelerated Reader books from me, the school library, or the public library.   The books need to be marked Accelerated Reader.  Parents should read the book or books to their child and then send the book to school.  Students will then take a computerized test on the computer. Most 1st grade books are 1/2 a point. 4th quarter most students will take the test on their own.

Our goal for the 2nd quarter is 5 points.  That is about 10 to 13 books depending on how they do on their computerized test.   The goal of this program is to get kids reading or to get families reading more frequently to their child.    Remember parents, you can read the books to your child.

More information on this will be sent home with your child in the coming weeks.

READING TIP:     Don't  ever try to make your child read a book that is too hard!
This will only turn them off to reading. If your child is making
more than 3 errors per page it is too hard!

Can you find 10 minutes to read to your child?
