Spelling

We no longer have bonus words.  Your child is responsible for learning all the words.

Above is a list of the spelling words for the week.  Your children are now responsible for learning all of the words on the list.   We will usually take a practice test on Wednesdays and the final test will usually be on Fridays.

Spelling words will come home with your child every Friday.  They will be printed on yellow paper so they are easy to find.  For the first quarter, the words with the stars are bonus words.  I would like your child to try to learn at least some of those words, but the most important ones are the first 6 in the list.

Begin studying on the weekend so that your child gets a head start and doesn't feel so stressed to learn them all in only a few days. Please study your spelling words every night.  It is very important that you begin with only a few words.  When those words have been mastered then add another one or two until you have the whole list learned.  It is also important to have your child write the words as you practice.  Do not just have the child spell them orally.  Spelling orally and writing them are two very different skills. If they don't write them at home, the tests taken at school can be extra difficult.  Thanks for all of your support!!!
