SPEECH & LANGUAGE AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL

At the Middle School, students who receive speech and language services work on a variety of speech and language activities depending on the student's Individual Educational Plan.  Speech goals may include improving articulation skills or reducing stuttering.  Students working on language goals may work on being able to follow directions more easily or increasing their comprehension and use of vocabulary.  Students may also work on being better able to explain ideas, ask questions, or write clear paragraphs.  Some students may need to improve their use of language in social situations:  what to say to whom and when and why?  We try to have some fun while we are working on speech and language tasks.

Students may be referred to the speech therapist by their parents or teachers.  Before any testing is conducted, parents sign a pre-assessment permission form.  After testing is completed, a meeting is scheduled with the parent(s), principal, and at least one classroom teacher. If the students qualifies for services and the parent(s) gives permission, direct services are provided.
