Exploring Agriculture I   

 1 credit/1st semester  

 

This course includes exploration and basic introduction to the many areas of our nation's largest industry, agriculture and agribusiness. 

Unites of study include:

bullet leadership development
bullet public relation skills
bullet parliamentary procedure
bullet FFA opportunities & history
bullet public speaking
bullet animal genetics and reproduction.

Students will understand the workings of a computer and various software programs.  Internet use and agriculture web sites will be pointed out for future resource information. 

Guest speakers, field trips, and numerous lab activities will enhance learning in all areas.


Grade Elig:  9-12

Exploring Agriculture II   

 1 credit/2nd Semester     

 This course continues to explore the many areas of our nation's largest industry, agriculture and agribusiness.  This course will continue to build on:

public speaking skills

bullet

Other units of study will include

animal and livestock care

bullet

live and paper evaluation

bullet

wildlife and forestry management

bullet

horticulture

bullet

wreath design and lawn care

  All units will be supplemented with either lab activities, field trips, or guest speakers. 

 A portion of the semester will be spent in the shop covering safety, tool ID, and carpentry skills.  Students will learn how to read plans, operate machines, and construct a wood project.


Prerequisite    Exploring Agriculture I is preferred but not required        Grade Elig:  9-12
