Current Assignment:  Review for Final Test

Course Content:

1. Five Units in the Literature Text which will include short stories, poetry, and

nonfiction.

1. predicting story line
2. understanding cause and effect
3. understanding literary elements, eg., plot, conflict, foreshadowing, irony

2. Two novels:  The Outsiders

      

   1.  making inferences 

   2. summarizing a story
   3. drawing conclusions
   4. text analysis

3. Anthem

3. Two Grammar Units:  Parts of Speech and Parts of the Sentence
   1. identifying the eight parts of speech
   2. understanding sentence structure
   3. avoiding fragments and run-ons
   4. Daily Oral Language drills

4. Vocabulary Development
   1. learning word roots
   2. acquiring meaning from context

Assessment will be based on daily work, quizzes, tests, and writing assignments.  Homework will be given nearly every day.  Quizzes will vary in length and frequency.  Sometimes quizzes will happen without warning.  There will usually be a test after each unit.
