Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year!
My room is a resource room in which special education English for 11th and 12th graders, who qualify, is taught, along with guided study halls. The main focus of this English class is reading and comprehension taught through reading classic novels.
Guided Study Hall is required for all special education students. With a passing grade, one credit is earned each semester. During this time the students are required to bring with them the assignments and necessary materials needed to complete the work. Everyone begins each day with an A, but needs to follow guided study hall expectations to maintain that grade for the day. During this time, special education teachers are guiding and helping the students, but the students in turn need to be prepared and working. How successful your child is in this setting, and therefore in their other classes, depends on him or her.
The high school years are a time for your child to become an advocate for himself or herself. The goal of the JCC special education teachers is to help prepare your son or daughter for life after high school; to help them become ready to face the "real world" after graduation.
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HARD WORK.
