Members of this prestigious
organization are chosen by the whole
faculty based on Character, Service, Leadership, and Scholarship.
New membership drive will be held after the 2nd quarter grades are posted. Letters will be handed out to all eligible students.
2006-07 service projects have included putting American flags in all the new classrooms, ringing bells for Salvation Army, helping with the Toys for Tots program. We hope to do a Bowl-a-thon and reading to the elementary students as well this year.
2004-2005 service projects included decorating a table at the "Tour of Tables" fundraiser for Dollars for Scholars.
2003-2004 service projects were a Bowl-a-thon to raise funds for the SW Crises Center (we raised over $550 - Thanks to all who sponsored NHS members!!) and reading to elementary students during I Love To Read Month.
If you have any ideas for service projects, please contact any NHS member, Paul Grupe paul_grupe@jccschools.com or Kelly Benson kelly_benson@jccschools.com (507)-847-5310.
Membership is open to 11th and 12th graders who qualify.
Students must have a 3.40 GPA to be academically eligible for the NHS.
Students fill out an application form listing their Leadership, Character and Service activities.
Students are then evaluated by the faculty based on their "resume". Final selection is based on 4 areas: GPA (25%), Character (25%), Service (25%), and Leadership(25%).
Students are also given a set of by-laws when they apply.
