Course #96 Concert
Choir 2 credits/1st&2nd
semester Grad Stand: Literature
& Arts Creation & Performance
The students will be invited to participate in a choral setting singing songs in
four to eight parts according to ability and voice range. The music
performed will be music from all musical periods and cultures. Music
selections will enrich the singers vocal techniques and musical concepts making
the performing groups a successful experience. This group is a performing
group that will be entering vocal contests challenging the musicianship of the
choir. There will be 3-5 public concerts where attendance is
mandatory. Each student will be required to attend voice lessons weekly in
order to prepare to meet the expected standards.
To meet the standard, students will be required to perform twice in a large
group setting (concert, large group state contest) and sing a solo piece of
literature at a state solo ensemble contest demonstrating proficiency by scoring
an excellent or superior rating by a registered adjudicator. This standard
will be met during the second semester for grades 10-12.

Course #97 Concert
Band 2 credits/1st&2nd

Arts Creation & Performance
Students will continue their learning of musical terms, rhythms, keys, forms and
cultures while increasing their proficiency on their instrument. Music
will be selected to challenge students and to further enhance their level of
ability and knowledge of styles, composers, history and cultures. This
class will spend its classroom time preparing for the many facets of being a
High School Band member. This class will incorporate marching band, pap
band, solo and ensemble, as well as concert band into its curriculum.
Students in this class will also have individual lessons weekly.
To meet the standard, students will be required to perform with the full concert
band at the large group contest and play a solo piece of literature at a state
solo ensemble contest. Students would demonstrate their proficiency by
scoring an excellent or superior rating from a registered adjudicator.
This standard will be met during the second semester for grades 10-12.

Theory & Composition 1

This course is designed for the serious music student. It will cover music
theory from the basic level to the college entrance level. The student
will be introduced to the tools and skills needed to compose their own works and
to develop their creativity and listening skills.

Course #105 Music
Listening & Appreciation 1
credit/1st semester Grad Stand:
Literature & Arts Analysis & Interpretation
This class would study the different periods of music from the 9th century to
20th century. Music would be included from the Renaissance, Baroque,
Classical, Romantic (19th century) and 20th century periods. The first 10
weeks would be learning characteristics, composers, and history of the music of
each period. The last 8 weeks would be preparation for the MN State Music
Listening Contest. This contest is a listening and learning contest which
his based on music of every period of music. This contest also features: A
featured composer (either Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky or Bach); A
featured genre (style - like string quartet or organ music); and A featured
influence (like - jazz, native American music or Chinese music).
