ESL  class offerings/descriptions

Course #160    English as a Second Language    2 credits/1st&2nd semester        Grad Stand:
The ESL program provides supplemental language experience and instruction for students whose native language is not English.  At the high school level, students attend an ESL class which supplements/replaces their English course.

In ESL, students are engaged in activities which help them become more proficient speakers, readers and writers of the English language.  Specific activities and areas of development include: reading comprehension, grammar, composition, oral reports/discussions and study skills.  Each semester the students read a variety of materials including newspapers, short stories and novels.  Writing activities and oral discussions accompany the reading.
